Inspired by the likes of Michael Gondry, Spike Jonze and Charlie Kauffman, Jon’s showreel reveals a performance-driven director with a lovely sense of humour.

Jon started out writing, directing and producing his own material for a few television shows before turning to commercials. He had 2 spots short-listed for the CFP – E / Shots Young Directors Award in Cannes 2006, which drew the attention of agencies and production companies in South Africa and Europe.

He approaches boards with heaps of energy, tells a good story visually, and is easy-going and collaborative in his working style.

A compulsive record collector, Jon also has a great ear for music. He used “Beautiful”, the single from The Parlotones, on his Fuji spot for Irish agency McCann Erickson, which helped land the South African band a worldwide deal with Universal UK.

Jon’s wary of being typecast. “I hate being put in one box,” he says. “If made to chose, I would lean towards humour, but I’m intrigued by a whole bunch of stuff I haven’t done yet!”
